Alloy Wire International (AWI) is pleased to announce that it has become a carbon neutral business, as it strives to become a more sustainable business recognising the actions needed to support the world’s climate.
The company has partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain to measure and offset its carbon footprint, becoming certified as carbon neutral for a period of 12 months. As part of its Wired For Good campaign that AWI is undertaking, all manufacturing, deliveries and even employee commuting emissions have been offset. The firm partnered with a number of specialist organisations to achieve this, with the focus on woodland creation, solar/wind and sustainability projects.
With businesses accounting for over 85% of total greenhouse gas emissions in the UK, the onus is on corporations to make an effort to help stop climate change.
After partnering with Carbon Neutral Britain in May, Alloy Wire’s ambition was to measure and offset the total company emissions. As a worldwide supplier of wire, bars and wire rope, it was found that the main emissions came from energy consumption and delivering products to customers all over the globe.
Following analysis and planning, in July Alloy Wire offset the total carbon footprint necessary to become certified as a Carbon Neutral Business. AWI was careful to partner with an organisation who provided 100% verified carbon credits and full transparency, with every process regulated, verified and third party audited. This has been done following calculations using the ISO 14064 and GHG Protocol Emissions Standard principles of relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency and accuracy.
Mark Venables, Managing Director at Alloy Wire International said:
“It is recognised that manufacturing is one of the largest greenhouse gas emitters in the UK and we saw this initiative as an opportunity to play our part in a matter that will be shaping public opinion, consumer behaviour and policy changes moving forward. We feel this is a good message to combine with the 75th anniversary this year, showing that we have a legacy as company but also how we are proactive in thinking about the future and how we will sustain another 75 years in business.
„The current achievement of becoming carbon neutral is just the start. Partnering with Carbon Neutral Britain meant we have received a detailed report on our carbon emissions which means we have been able to accurately look into and improve our internal processes regarding our carbon production.”
Paul Chatterley, Sales Executive at Alloy Wire International added:
“We are already working towards our next goal which is to become carbon negative and eventually net zero, alongside reducing our overall carbon footprint with renewable energy sources and reduced wastage internally.
“The Alloy Wire staff are really supportive and committed to this cause and are happy to be part of our ‘Wired for Good’ campaign.”
